Kurt Vile Announces watch my moves With New Single ‘Like Exploding Stones’

Kurt Vile will release a new album watch my moves on April 15 via Verve Records. In support of the new album, Vile has released the first single “Like Exploding Stones” along with an accompanying video featuring Sun Ra Arkestra’s James Stewart.

The track is serene in mood, with lo-fi folk elements that transcend the typical conventions of the genre to incorporate elements of psychedelia. The video shows the juxtaposition between calm, soothing Philadelphia daytime and darker nightlife with colorful explosions.

Watch my moves was produced by Vile and longtime collaborator Rob Schnapf. Vile recorded the single along with most of the forthcoming album in his newly created home studio, OKV Central, in Mount Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia.

“When Waylon Jennings became an outlaw country artist, he liked to record at Hillbilly Central, which was Tompall Glaser’s studio,” Vile shares. “OKV Central is my version of that in Mount Airy. I’ve come into my own here, and at the same time I’m getting back to my home-recording roots.”

Watch my moves is Vile’s ninth solo album and first album since Bottle It In which he released in 2018, receiving critical acclaim. The forthcoming album is available for preorder here. The album is set to have laid laid-back feel without compromising the striking vibrancy seen already on “Like Exploding Stones.”

“It’s about songwriting. It’s about lyrics. It’s about being the master of all domains in the music,” Vile said in a release. “I’m always thinking about catchy music, even though it’s fried, or sizzled, out. It’s my own version of a classic thing—it’s moving forward and backward at the same time.”

Zoë Kravitz is making “vulnerable” new music with Jack Antonoff

Zoë Kravitz has given an update on the “vulnerable” new solo music she’s making with Jack Antonoff.

The actress and musician previously told AnOther magazine back in October that she’d been recording with Antonoff “for a couple of years, on and off”.

Speaking in a new interview with Elle, Kravitz has now spoken further about working with the Bleachers musician at Electric Lady Studios in New York.

“It feels vulnerable, and it’s a little scary, but making music makes me happy,” Kravitz said about the project. Elle notes that the forthcoming music “explores love and loss, among other themes she’s still discovering”.

Kravitz told AnOther last year that Antonoff is “a fantastic producer – he’s so good at really tapping into who he’s working with and not making it about him”.

Zoë Kravitz

“Some producers want to make it about … like, ‘I’m going to put my sound on you’. It’s what I experienced with my band,” she explained. “But for him to want to help me realise what I’m hearing in my head has been a really wonderful experience and very therapeutic.

“I wrote it over a long stretch of time, subconsciously just capturing this range of emotions, which has been interesting to look back on and see what I was writing about them, then and now and in between. It’s personal. It’s about love and loss. I got married. I got divorced. Separations, break-ups are sad but are beautiful things too. It’s about the bittersweetness, that beginning and that end.”

Kravitz added: “It’s so complex, that space, when you’re in between heartbroken and mourning the loss of something and excited for what’s ahead of you.”

Kravitz will star as Selina Kyle / Catwoman in The Batman, which is set for release on March 4.

‘Peaky Blinders’ new season will “honour” Helen McCrory, says Cillian Murphy

Cillian Murphy has opened up about the new season of Peaky Blinders saying that it will “honour” late actor Helen McCrory.

McCrory, who played Polly Gray in the BBC series, died aged 52 from cancer in April last year – when filming on the sixth season had been halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Opening up about the new season, Murphy said he thinks it will be a “tribute” to her.

He told Variety: “I think the whole series is really in tribute to her and to honour her. Her presence and her character’s presence are very much still felt in the series, and it is very much part of Tommy’s journey in the season.

“It’ll be different without her, you know. It simply won’t be the same. I’ve spoken about how phenomenal she was as an actress and as a person and it is an enormous loss to the whole acting community and not just for our show.

“My thoughts are always with Damian [Lewis, her husband] and her kids. I just hope that the show will live up to her memory and our memory of her.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Murphy said he thinks fans will be “pleased” with the new season, which he described as “special”.

When asked what fans can expect, he said: “I think this is the culmination of the series that hopefully improves upon the last season and makes the most recent one the richest and deepest one that we possibly can, partially because of all of the pandemic shit happening in the world and, of course, the really sad loss of McCrory.

“I think we are determined to make this a special series and we have been extra committed to working hard. I think the fans will be pleased.”

Earlier today (February 15), the premiere date of the new season was unveiled in Birmingham via a giant mural.

The 12.71 metre high mural featured a picture of Murphy as Tommy Shelby and confirmed that the new season will air on February 27th at 9pm on BBC One.

The image appeared over the Old Crown in Digbeth and was painted over seven days by street artist Akse.

Soul Coughing’s Mike Doughty and Sebastian Steinberg Perform Together for the First Time in 22 Years

Soul Coughing‘s Mike Doughty performed with Sebastian Steinberg for the first time in 22 years. Yes, you read correctly. A reunion never seemed possible due to a number of issues and fissions between the bandmembers over the years. Yet, it seems like fans of the alt-rock cult favorites have something to hang their hats on.

Steinberg unexpectedly brought out Doughty during his performance at Largo in Los Angeles for Watkins Family Hour. The duo performed Soul Coughing songs “Super Bon Bon” and “True Dreams of Wichita” together.

Doughty and Steinberg aside, none of Soul Coughing’s members have performed together since they split in 2000.

Doughty is currently on a residency in L.A. which will continue through the end of the month. He will perform at Harvard and Stone and admission will be free, first come first serve. More information is available on Doughty’s website here.
