abc ARTICALE ON KARINE SHO-TIME THORNTON

To express themselves, artists choose which music genre best reflects their lived experiences. With rap as their medium, they created art that presented the reality of their lives, their communities, and the social circumstances which they found themselves in. Finding new ways to explore their identity, new hip hop musicians are presented with several platforms that would challenge their freestyle rapping and talent in their craft.

Karine Thornton, popularly known as Sho-Time, saw limitless opportunities for artists in the rap industry. Born in the Bronx, he grew up with hip hop tradition and culture in his veins. He attended the High School of Art & Design like many other hip hop acts, such as Mobb Deep and Young Money recording artist Jae Millz. Some of his popular releases from his albums entitled ‘Necsere Advances’ and ‘Winning’.

Passionate for making rap music, he started writing battle raps and battling other emcees while Tron on the Beat produced his early recordings. He also worked with companies such as Def Jam, Sony, and Universal Recording Studios, to name a few. With his increasing popularity in the hip hop scene, radio stations across the country have invited him to their shows. Furthermore, he was featured in popular sites such as Urltv, Vladtv, WorldStarHipHop, WhatsHotinHipHop, and many more.

In the process of establishing himself and his brand, Sho-Time added media and film to his resume, uploading videos with today’s up-and-coming and mainstream artists. Sho-timetv was his independent attempt at creating a media outlet for hip hop musicians and enthusiasts alike. Through his media company, he has interviewed the cast of the hit shows on the OWN Network, such as The Have and Have Nots and Love Thy Neighbor by Tyler Perry.

As a well-known rap artist, he has hosted and judged countless showcases and concerts across the board. On June 1, 2015, he founded Sho-time Battle Rap League, attracting an epic roster of battle rap emcees from around the world to compete in one of the many respected battle rap leagues to ever grace versetracker.com. Emcees who participate in the league include Ms. ILL, Fly Mugga, Melato Black, Preminitions, C Wordplay, Self Made, Stack Daniels, Will Porter, B Littles, and other rising rap artists. Through this platform, artists spit bars and freestyle spontaneously in live battles on the same stage to see who has better verses.

Continuing to shape the hip hop industry, Sho-time has played the lead role in PPRESSED: A Battle Rap Film by Vera Edwards and Street Line in 2016. He has also appeared in Rodent the Urban Soap Opera, Perate, Chicken Waiting 4 Mr Wright, and A Teenage Story. As a casting director of Street Line films, he played a significant role in casting the acts for PPRESSED 2, which is currently in the works.

To this day, Sho-Time continues to make waves in the rap industry by creating limitless music, pushing hip hop to its boundaries without fear and setting a new standard and tone for his fans and hip hop lovers all over the globe. He is on his way to becoming a household name in making films and television shows, promoting and developing rap artists, and shows no signs of slowing down.
